ID theft from an unlikely source

In the digital age, ID theft has become rampant, simply because it doesn't take that much work to obtain somebody's details. A web form for a large site that has popped up from no where, an email requesting personal/sensitive information, most of us can spot these items as fake and the intention behind them, but some people don't and end up giving out their details.

Scammers have had to become sneakier at data gathering because of the public awareness of these types of fraud. This article from 2002, describes how one person (and maybe more), John, was scammed by a job posting on Monster.com. He gave out all his details at the promise of a new job at a top firm. As the article suggests, John isn’t stupid, but was tricked by a clever way of obtaining his details. So watch out who you give your details to, even if you trust the source 100 %.
